Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
Chances are that your question has been asked (and answered) before. Take a look through our FAQs below for answers to questions we get a lot. If you still have questions, please ask us.
Subscriptions
Why is the price so low?
Appraisal University is a new provider of continuing education and we're just beginning to roll out nationwide. We could have waited until we had a full catalog of courses that were approved everywhere. Instead, we're rolling out in phases as we want to pass on incredible benefits to early subscribers.
Our current offering is an $139 annual subscription. This subscription starts with three courses and continues with all courses we add to our catalog (at no additional cost) for one year.
What is a subscription?
A subscription is a yearly membership to Appraisal University. As a member you have unlimited access to courses and unrestricted use of a state-of-the-art learning management systems that allows you to manage your courses and continuing education credits. Subscriptions can be renewed indefinitely.
Who can sign up?
Anyone.
In which states are your courses approved?
We are approved in over half the states and are adding approvals every month. To see which states a course is approved in, click on the Course Catalog tab above, select the course you're interested in, and click the View Details button. The State Approvals tab on the details page will list all approved sates, course credits for the state, and the expiration, if any.
How do I sign up?
Visit our Sign Up page to register and create an account. You will need to provide contact information and a valid credit card.
Will you add courses?
Yes. We plan on offering several new courses over the next year. Which courses are added to your state will depend on lots of factors, and we'll notify subscribers when new courses are available in their states.
Will you increase your prices?
Yes, the current price is a limited time offer. As we add course offerings, we will increase pricing to reflect the larger offering, but this will only affect new subscribers. Whichever offering you sign up under, your subscription will continue to provide unlimited access to all of our courses for the term of your subscription, even those courses added after you sign up. Remember, you will not be asked to pay more for new courses added to our catalog - your subscription covers everything we offer now and through the term of your subscription.
Subscribing
What is a subscription?
A subscription gives you a year's worth of access to Appraisal University, where you receive unlimited access to courses. Subscribers can also use a variety of services that make the management of their courses and their continuing education credits a simple task. Subscriptions can be renewed indefinitely.
Who can subscribe to Appraisal University?
Anyone. Most of our subscribers are licensed real estate appraisers who complete courses to meet their continuing education requirements. Others are assessors, appraiser trainees, and individuals interested in learning more about the real estate appraisal practice.
Are there different subscription types?
Not at this time. Today, a subscription provides unlimited access to all of our courses. We may change this in the future by offering premium subscriptions that include specialty topics. If we do make this change it will only affect new subscriptions. Any existing subscriber will have access to any specialty courses through the term of their current subscription.
How do I subscribe?
Visit our Sign Up page to register and create an account. You will need to provide contact information and a valid credit card.
Is paying online with a credit card safe?
It is with us. Our website is secure and we use extra-strength 128-bit SSL encryption. We never store your credit card information so there is no chance that anyone could steal it from us.
Will my credit card be charged every year automatically?
No. We do not store your payment information. We will remind you to renew before your subscription ends so that you can continue to receive subscription benefits.
Will I get a receipt for my purchase?
Yes. We send you a receipt by email and you can always print another while logged in.
Courses
What courses are offered?
We offer courses in a variety of real estate appraisal topics. Most courses are approved for continuing education credit in most states.
When do you offer new courses?
We continually add courses to our catalog. We encourage you to let us know about topics of interest so that we continue to add desired subjects.
What do courses cost?
Nothing. Subscribers receive unlimited access to courses at no additional charge.
Do I need to purchase books?
No. You are not required to purchase anything additional to complete a course. We provide you with purchase information for any reference materials that you may desire, however these are never required for you to complete a course.
There is one single exception - the AQB charges a fee for use of the required USPAP book for USPAP Update courses. We charge students who take Appraisal University's USPAP update course this fee and it is passed on to the AQB with the roster information when the student completes the course.
How much time does it take to complete a course?
Most of our courses are approved for 7 CE credit hours, though they vary from 2 to 9 hours. These numbers provide you with a rough expectation of the time required for presentations, quizzes, and exams.
How long do I have to complete a course?
You need to complete a course while your subscription is active and valid, and before the course approval expires in the state in which you are seeking credit. You will be notified on the website and by email if and when you have 30 days or less to complete any partially-completed course. You do not need to complete a course in one sitting. You can stop at any time and resume where you left off.
Completion Certificates
How do I get a completion certificate?
Active subscribers can, at any time, print completion certificates for any course they have completed. Inactive subscribers can send us a request and we'll mail them one.
What do completion certificates cost?
Nothing for active subscribers, regardless of the number of times they need to print a certificate or the number of different states in which they are licensed. Inactive subscribers will need to pay an administrative fee of $25 for each certificate they need sent.
Can I use your courses for MBREA / IAAO / OTHER continuing education requirements?
Yes. All Appraisal University courses meet the MBREA's, IAAO's, and [another well-known appraisal organization we were asked not to name on our website]'s criteria and are therefore acceptable for member education requirements. None of these organizations pre-approves education - you'll need to submit the courses following the organization's rules, details of which we've included in our member support section.
What about that "other well-known appraisal organization we were asked not to name on our website"? We will gladly provide that information to you on request. Please contact us if you're curious about how to get credit in any appraisal organization toward their designations, including the "organization we have been asked not to name on our website".
My state requires you to submit course records electronically. How much does this cost me?
Nothing. We process all State requirements for mail or electronic delivery of licensee records at no cost to our subscribers.
My Account
Can I change my information?
Yes. You can update your information at any time.
Can I share my account with another appraiser?
Why would you? We price our subscriptions so low that it doesn't really make sense. That said, it is possible to share your account, but doing so violates our membership Terms and Conditions. If you are a licensed real estate appraiser you should know that any information reported to State Boards of Registration will contain only one name and license number, so two or more people can't effectively use one account and get continuing education credit. Also, all completion certificates are coded with the original account holder's identification, so a State audit would get you both in a heap of trouble. Finally, if any private, state, or federal appraisal authority found out about this, you'd lose your membership or license in a hurry.
Can I cancel my account?
There is no need to cancel an account. Your account will expire on its expiration date if you do not renew your subscription.
I was teaching a class at the University of Sankore in Timbuktu and my subscription expired. What happens to all of my information and course completions?
Regardless of where you were when your account expired, we will retain your information indefinitely. If extenuating circumstances prevented you from renewing by your expiration date, contact us within 30 days of your expiration and we will get your account reinstated, and we'll even honor any renewal discounts. If your account expired and you do not wish to renew, you may request transcripts or completion certificates for a small processing fee.
Will you sell, lease, or provide my information to anyone?
No - never, except as required by regulatory agencies or legal authorities as detailed in our Privacy Policy.
